Chianti Classico Mixed Case

Sale price $283.64

Chianti Classico is the oldest part of the Chianti region. Wine has been produced in this small area for over 2000 years, making it one of the most loved wines worldwide. This area was recognized as a wine region in the 13th century, and its borders were defined in 1716 by a proclamation issued by Grand Duke Cosimo III de’ Medici. The unmistakable Black Rooster (Gallo Nero) seal can identify Chianti Classico wines, distinguishing them from the larger, less prestigious, Chianti DOCG designation. Today, every bottle of Chianti Classico is marked with a Gallo Nero, a symbol to protect this wine against fraud and to promote its heritage. Today’s mixed case offers 3 Chianti Classicos from outstanding producers all with a different profile offering something for every Italian wine lover.

Included in this case of six are two bottles of each:

FÈLSINA BERARDENGA, CHIANTI CLASSICO DOCG  2021

Fèlsina is a highly reputable Chianti Classico producer, founded in 1966 by the Poggiali family. They are an authentic agricultural establishment centered around wine and olive oil farming, biodynamic since inception. The estate is situated at the southeast edge of the Classico appellation, where the estate straddles Chianti Classico and Chianti Colli Senesi in the direction of Montalcino where the climate is warmer than the rest of the Classico area. This 100% Sangiovese Chianti Classico is perfectly described by Jancis Robinson: “Brilliant ruby red. Deep cherry with dark spice notes. Concentrated, supple, and with plenty of richness. Impressive structure with powdery tannins that have yet to settle.”

MONTERAPONI,CHIANTI CLASSICO DOCG 2022

The Chianti farmhouse Monteraponi, once belonging to Earl Ugo, Marquis and Governor of Toscana, is situated in an ancient medieval village, and built around three square towers dating from the tenth century. The complex located on the hill of the same name at an altitude of 470 meters overlooking the valley below which slopes toward the river Arbia. Michele Braganti, owner and proprietor of Monteraponi, makes wine in Radda in Chianti. Radda, straddling Florence and Siena is the wildest area in the entire Chianti Classico region. The vineyard and cellar is operated according to an organic philosophy, an approach that focuses on nature and on the respect of the lands and grapes.

ISTINE, CHIANTI CLASSICO DOCG 2021

Angela Fronti’s ancestors farmed other people’s land. Today she makes stellar crus from a growing family estate. Fronti loves Sangiovese because it’s challenging to grow and very Italian. “Merlot is easier. I can make a beautiful Merlot.” Fronti says with matter-of-fact confidence. “But I get much more satisfaction from Sangiovese.” Her Chianti Classico is 100% certified organic Sangiovese, offering bright, rich cherry aromatics, savoury notes, and minerality. It is fresh and clean with medium tannins front and centre and a silky finish.
